Os filhotes morreram com 2 ou 3 semanas de vida, e em sua caverna congelada ficaram perfeitamente preservados, at\u00e9 os bigodes est\u00e3o intactos. Eles v\u00e3o permitir que saiba mais sobre a esp\u00e9cie e porque foi extinta. O le\u00e3o das cavernas tinha cerca de 1,2 m. de altura, 3,3 m. de comprimento e pesava por volta de 350 kg.
