É uma ave de rapina, natural da África e ameaçada de extinção. Seu nome vem do árabe saqr-et-tair (ave caçadora). Tem 1,5 m. de altura, 2 m. de envergadura e seu alimento preferido são as cobras, que mata pisoteando-as com seus poderosos pés. Vivem em casais, geralmente em grupos de 3 ou 4, e apesar de voar prefere andar. Existem fósseis dessa ave datadas da época do mioceno, cerca de 24 milhões de anos atrás. Muito bonita e elegante.
